The Indians just out-hit the Angels in this Game 13 hits to 6 and benefited from 10 walks given-up by Angels pitching while walking 1 batter themselves. There was some sloppy defensive play on both sides with 4 Indian errors vs 3 for the Angels side. Both June Campbell and Denise "Scoop" Ryaby made their baseball pitching debut in this game and aquitted themselves well. June, a great outfielder, had never pitched baseball before while Scoop, normally a softball shortstop, had pitched in Little League years ago. Congratulations June and Scoop! Indians pitching kept the Angels bats quiet until the 4th inning when multiple Angel hits resulted in 3 runs.

The Angels came as close to winning today as you can get without actually winning. This Was a Very Close Game all the Way. The Angels out-hit the Indians 8 - 5. The errors were pretty even with 2 Indians errors and one Angels error. Scoop Ryaby (right) was brilliant pitching for the Angels. Through 4 innings she allowed just 2 hits. Mickie gave her usual superior pitching performance for the Indians side. Angels pitching accounted for 6 strikeouts vs 9 for Indians pitching (Scoop 3, June 2 andLisa 1). That's pretty even considering that the Angels were facing the number 2 pitcher in the league. The difference in the game proved to be the 11 walks allowed by Angels pitching verses 1 walk allowed by the Indians. Lisa Frey made her pitching debut for the Angels and featured a live fastball that made the Indians into defensive batters. Congratulations Lisa.

Kristin Mills Beat the Angels Today. Kristin Mills handled Angel batters in this game easily with 10 strike-outs in the shortened 4 inning game. She threw more curve balls in this game than the last time the Angels faced her and had Angel batters out-in-front time and time again. The Yankees benefited from 10 infield hits and 10 walks by Angels pitching to win this one sided victory.

Angels Pitching Was MIA Today. To be sure, the Mets came to the game today ready to play and got 7 hits in the first 4 innings verses 4 hits for the Angels. But the story of this game was that 5 Angels pitchers gave-up 16 walks in 4 innings between them in this game. The Mets broke the game open in the 4th inning with 8 runs on 1 hit and 11 walks.

The Angels Came From Behind to Win this Game. Under beautiful sunshine in Elmwood Park, the Angels fought back from a 6 - 2 deficit scoring 3 runs in the 6th and 3 more in the 7th to win their first game of the season. Scoop Ryaby was the star of the game with 2 hits including a triple, 2 RBI's and 3 runs scored. Scoop relieved Suzanne Smith in the second inning after Suzanne jammed a finger sliding into second base. She pitched the rest of the way for the win, striking-out 8. The Angels out-hit the Indians 7 - 5. The errors were even with 3 each by the Angels and Indians. What was particularly gratifying was the fact that the top of the Angels batting order accounted for the 3 runs in the 6th inning and the bottom of the order accounted for the 3 runs in the 7th. This was a real team effort.

The Angels Played Sloppy Defense Today. The Yankees won today on 9 hits vs 6 hits for the Angels and aided by 6 Angel errors. Kristin Mills repeated her mastery of the Angels batters but she was not as sharp as in previous outings against the Angels, walking 3 and going deep in the count to numerous Angel batters. Perhaps all of the players were off their usual form due to the Summer heat.

Angels Lose to the Mets in Bayonne. Under trying field conditions at Bayonne Park field, the Mets bested the Angels 15 - 7 in a rain shortened game. Due to a scheduling conflict at Smith field, today's doubleheader was moved to Bayonne Park field on short notice. Evidently, someone forgot to tell the town DPW because they did not prep the field for the game. The Mets and Angels had to contend with ankle deep grass in the infield and outfield. The pitching staffs of both teams acquitted themselves well, keeping their respective teams in the game. The advantage went to the Mets who walked 4 and allowed 6 hits verses 9 walks and 10 hits allowed by the Angels. Carly DiPrenda and Lisa Frey led the Angels offense with 5 RBI's and 3 runs scored between them.

Indians Beat-up the Angels. The Indians beat-up the Angels 20 - 7 in the bright sunshine at Angels field. Nothing seemed to go right for the Angels defense in game 1 today. Four Angels pitchers walked 13 Indians and Angels players committed 8 defensive errors in the game. For their part, the Indians earned the win by getting 11 hits and playing a good game defensively. On the bright side, offensively, for the Angels, they got 8 hits and did score 7 earned runs with 7 players contributing to the scoring with either runs scored or RBI's.

June Campbell Pitched a 4-hitter for the Angels. June Campbell pitched a 4-hitter for the Angels in game 2 of today's doubleheader but lost the game 3 - 2. The game was well played with only 2 defensive errors by each team. With scheduled starter Amanda Potter not able to make the game, June Campbell was a last minute replacement on the mound for the Angels. June pitched brilliantly giving-up 2 earned runs over 6 innings. The Angels threatened to win the game in the top of the 7th with 3 hits in a row. Some good defensive play to get 2 Angels baserunners out, saved the game for the Indians. Those runners would have represented the tying and winning runs for the Angels.

The Angels forfeited this game to the Yankees after Angels second baseman Tara Tompkins was carried-off the field on a stretcher with a dislocated right knee and Suzanne Smith was later thrown out of the game for using the F word with the plate umpire and throwing her bat, leaving only 8 Angels players. In a ruling by Chief Umpire Bruce Grossberg, since the game was not an official game (not 5 innings, or 4 1/2 innings with the home team winning), the Yankees won the game by forfeit 9 - 0 and the individual player stats for the 2 1/2 innings played do not count.
